Early Detection Gets Easier
Genetic testing for specific cancer genes can help identify patients with elevated risks for developing cancer in their lifetimes. WMTW-TV's Kyle Jones visits with Maine Cancer Foundation grant recipient Dr. Gregory Feero who is piloting a new collaborative program at a family practice in Fairfield.
The program identifies patients with familial breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) and Lynch syndrome - elevating the risk for individuals to develop breast, ovarian, and colorectal cancer. "Early identification through family history and then potentially genetic testing can allow you to get these individuals into earlier and more frequent cancer screenings," says Dr. Feero.
Maine Cancer Foundation is proud to support work that provides access to high quality cancer screening and prevention services throughout Maine.
