On Thursday, June 13th, hundreds of women and men will join together to fight cancer and run one of the most beautiful sunset race courses in Maine at the Twilight 5K.
Hosted on the breathtaking Southern Maine Community College campus in South Portland, this inspirational event is open to individuals and teams, ages 10 and up. Each runner commits to a fundraising minimum of $100 to fight cancer, although many individuals raise much more. The race finishes with a live performance by local band Sly-Chi, awards, and a hospitality tent provided by Whole Foods and Shipyard Brewing Company.
The Twilight 5K originally started as a warm up race race for the all-women's Tri for a Cure, but the event has grown into its own right and has become popular with family groups and first-time runners. In 2012, the Twilight 5K attracted over 750 runners and raised more than $120,000 to help fight cancer here in the state of Maine.
With prizes, food, live music and an unbeatable view, the Twilight 5K is a fantastic way to enjoy a summer evening- and support the work of Maine Cancer Foundation, providing grants for cancer research, education and patient support programs across Maine.
